{"id":2000,"date":"2014-07-23T18:00:28","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T17:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/merrington.net\/?p=2000"},"modified":"2014-07-23T18:02:45","modified_gmt":"2014-07-23T17:02:45","slug":"kos-and-the-castle-of-neratzia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/merrington.net\/?p=2000","title":{"rendered":"Kos and the Castle of Neratzia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, we left Kalymnos and motored right over to Kos. \u00a0You could see the island from our spot on the Town Quay and as soon as we sailed out of the harbour we saw several islands and Turkey. \u00a0There is a small barren island just a stones&#8217; throw from Turkey and both Greece and Turkey have their large flags facing each other.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2001\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040642-640x480.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2001\" src=\"http:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040642-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"a Greek island \" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040642-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040642-640x480-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040642-640x480-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">a Greek island<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We wandered the streets of Kos Town less than a kilometer from Kos Marina, which we think is one of the best marinas in Greece. \u00a0Certainly it has the nicest showers, which is a very important criteria.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday morning, Kate and Mike Rider, friends from Noosa, came into Kos on a cruise ship and visited us on Mercier. \u00a0We were able to sit and chat, in a beautifully cool breeze and sip our coffees. \u00a0Mike\u00a0is always a useful font of Beneteau knowledge and we appreciate his advice.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2003\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2003\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040685-640x480.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2003\" src=\"http:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040685-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"Gaila and Kate at the Fortress of St John, Kos\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040685-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040685-640x480-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/P1040685-640x480-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gaila and Kate at the\u00a0Agora, Kos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We stopped for lunch at H20 on the way to visit Hippocrates&#8217; Plane Tree, the Agora and the Castle of Neratzia, which is full of ruins from the Knights of St John,\u00a0as well as Turks, on the foundations of an ancient city.
