The islands of Kos, Symi and Rhodes are just off the south-western Turkish coast and they are close, a just short ferry trip away.<\/p>\n<p>Rhodes was a completely different Greek island, even though the ancient Greeks and Romans had preceded us there and left ruins to be be seen. \u00a0What was different is that Rhodes is the oldest medieval city in western Europe. As a group\u00a0knights were made of Roman Catholic men usually of noble birth from Italy, France, England, Provence, Spain, Auvergne (France) and Germany. \u00a0The Knights were also famous for their\u00a0hospitals, so if you were ill or wounded you would be brought to the nearby hospital for care.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2211\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2211\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/P1050708-640x262.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2211\" src=\"http:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/P1050708-640x262.jpg\" alt=\"Turrets\" width=\"640\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/P1050708-640x262.jpg 640w, https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/P1050708-640x262-300x122.jpg 300w, https:\/\/merrington.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/P1050708-640x262-500x204.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2211\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Turrets<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There is also a street called the Street of the Knights, where the knights lived and met.\u00a0Each country had their own building\u00a0on the street.<\/p>\n<p>Turks\u00a0lived in Rhodes during the reign of the Knights and after\u00a0Suleiman finally conquered Rhodes\u00a0.
